Caribou Winter Hunt

Winter hunt period

James Bay region - Hunt period : November 15 to February 15

Caribou winter hunt

Big game hunters will leave Mirage Lodge, the paradise of winter caribou hunting, with an unforgettable memory of their stay. In fact, located near James Bay region's LG-4, the site is the main wintering ground of large migrating caribou herds from Northern Québec. Caribou arrive into the region in November and stay there for the whole winter. People are allowed to tag two caribou per individual. You may therefore leave the area not only with one but two caribou! A trip to Mirage Lodge will convince you.

The basic package for winter hunt includes lodging and the right of access to the hunting zone. Other available services are optional. The hunter himself provides his/her means of transportation on the hunting territory. At the beginning of the season, a vehicle is used for the hunt whereas in mid December, the use of snowmobile is almost essential.

It is important to note that in November, the male caribou lose their antlers, however it is in winter that the flavour of the meat is at it’s best.

Small game hunting

Small game hunters will be pleased to know that we also have ptarmigan hunt. The end of the holiday season inaugurates another activity: ice fishing. Fish abound! Make great catches with our species: brook trout, lake trout and pikes. (fishing equipment is supplied)
